Lay Eucharistic Ministers

In Roman Catholic churches, this group is known as “Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion.” In Protestant churches, they might call this a “Lay Pastoral Care Team.” The goal of this team is to empower a group of lay people to provide Eucharist and pastoral care visits to hospital and homebound people in our parish. This team of lay people has undergone several hours of training in both serving the Eucharist and providing pastoral care. They have made a sincere commitment to serve the people of our parish with their whole hearts. Their work is invaluable. They have the privilege of recognizing Christ in others by sharing him with others, and so they help to build up the body of Christ.

Caring for one another is deeply embedded in the culture of our community. This team is a logical extension of that culture. As we walk out our faith in God, we follow in the footsteps of Jesus, who knew his limitations and trained his disciples to continue his ministry. Our membership in the Ecumenical Catholic Communion encourages the contributions of lay people and their gifts at all levels of leadership. This team is truly a gift to our community.
